Detection: Windows Modify Registry on Smart Card Group Policy

Description

This analytic is developed to detect suspicious registry modifications targeting the "scforceoption" key. Altering this key enforces smart card login for all users, potentially disrupting normal access methods. Unauthorized changes to this setting could indicate an attempt to restrict access or force a specific authentication method, possibly signifying malicious intent to manipulate system security protocols.

Implementation

To successfully implement this search you need to be ingesting information on process that include the name of the process responsible for the changes from your endpoints into the Endpoint datamodel in the Processes node. In addition, confirm the latest CIM App 4.20 or higher is installed and the latest TA for the endpoint product.
